What is a quick shift kit?
A quick shift kit simply replaces the original gear lever mechanism so that gear changes require less movement of the gear lever. A precision manufactured kit such as this B&M item will also greatly improve the speed and location of each gear change.

What are the benefits?
Driving a car with a quick shift is difficult to put into words. Ask anyone who’s used one and they’ll rave about how it simply ‘feels’ so much better. Positive and accurate gear changes not only improve your driving pleasure but they can improve your performance too. Less time is lost in the actual change, and there’s less chance of missing a gear.

Why fit one to the BMW E39?
The plastic housing of BMW's gear linkage relies on grease for lubrication and eventually wears sloppy. It’s OK whilst the car is new, but a year or two down the line there’s so much slack in the gear change that shifting is more like stirring a bowl of porridge! Often the driver won’t even realise because the deterioration is so gradual.

By fitting a B&M kit to this BMW the throw is reduced by 25%. The feel of the gear change is also improved resulting in a smooth sweet shift which complements the steering and suspension. Because this shifter has a fully isolated shaft it won’t transfer harsh vibrations to the driver - this makes it ideal for road use as well as competition. What’s more fitting is straight forward and no modifications are required to the centre console.

About this kit
Unlike other kits this B&M product is fully isolated. This means that you get all the benefits of a quick shift without the harshness of a race car gear linkage. The pivot features a bronze and polymer self-lubricating bearing, which will outlast BMW’s plastic one ten times over! The two-piece shaft uses nitrile O-rings to isolate the drivers portion from vibrations in the drive-train. It is counter balanced – so requires less effort to shift. The lower bush is also self-lubricating and is impervious to contamination – in fact the harder you push it, the better it works!

What’s included?
This kit includes a beautifully machined two-piece lever and a blue anodised housing. A tube of lithium grease, and detailed fitting instructions are also supplied. The kit is packaged in a B&M box along with a B&M sticker and badge.

Which models will this kit fit?
This B&M kit is suitable for all BMW 5 series models manufactured between 1996 and 2002 (also known as the E39).
